shitty photos and no paragraphs

what up blogger?.....blogger has been giving me problems with my photo posting and i haven't had the time or energy to figure out what the issue is. i'll try to resolve it soon. anyways, i've been away for a long time dear blog. i've been caught up with school starting at ucla, my new puppy and general craziness of running my own business. i just wanted to share some photos from my day today at the schindler house in west hollywood. it is an amazing space open to the public if you haven't been. i'm in the process of writing a paper on it right now, so i saw this as a perfect way to procrastinate. i'm wearing ann demeulemeester tank, rick owens shorts, and margiela shoes. this has been somewhat of a summer uniform for me. since it's still in the 80's here in la, i guess its a fall uniform as well thus far (cool weather can come any day - just sayin'!)

navy

hundred degree weather be damned!  i'm ready for fall and i'm jealous of you out there already talking about the leaves changing and chilly nights.  right now, i'm sweating my ass off!

i'm not a fan of summer fashion so i tend to get lazy this time of year when summer is ending for many, but just picking up steam in la.  i really find it impossible to feel good/chic when i'm just crying inside.  as always, i'm daydreaming of piling on the layers and slipping into some second skin leather pants.

above is one of the tops i'm eyeing up for fall.  i've always associated navy blue with preppy striped shirts and sailors.  however, jeremy laing may have opened my eyes.

meet maya

say hi to maya!  she's our new 5 month old pup.  she's a mix of lab, pit bull terrier and maybe some dalmation... we are so happy to have her home!

after about 24 hours with her i know this:
maya loves to be outside - she loves trees and grass and running after flowers in the wind
she's very social - loves other doggies and people too
maya looks at herself in every window and mirror (plays into the social thing)
but she's not so into getting photos taken... most end up looking like this:

i am completely smitten (and exhausted!)

rules of style by rick owens

1.
I’m not good at subtlety. If you’re not going to be discreet and quiet, then just go all the way and have the balls to shave off your eyebrows, bleach your hair, and put on some big bracelets.
2.
Working out is modern couture. No outfit is going to make you look or feel as good as having a fit body. Buy less clothing and go to the gym instead.
3.
I’ve lived in Paris for six years, and I’m sorry to say that the Ugly American syndrome still exists. Sometimes you just want to say “Stop destroying the landscape with your outfit.” Still, from a design standpoint, I’m tempted to redo the fanny pack. I look at it as a challenge—it’s something to react against.
4.
When a suit gets middle-of-the-road it kind of loses me—it has to be sharp and classic and almost forties.
5.
Hair and shoes say it all. Everything in between is forgivable as long as you keep it simple. Trying to talk with your clothes is passive-aggressive.
6.
There’s something a little too chatterboxy about color. Right now I want black, for its sharpness and punctuation.
7.
Jean-Michel Frank, the thirties interior and furniture designer, supposedly had 40 identical double-breasted gray flannel suits. He knew himself and is a wonderful example of restraint and extravagance.
8.
I hate rings and bracelets on men. I’m not a fan of man bags, or girl bags either—or even sunglasses. I don’t like fussy accessories. Isn’t it more chic to be free? Every jacket I make has interior pockets big enough to store a book and a sandwich and a passport.
9.
With layering, sometimes the more the better. When you layer a lot of black you’re like a walking Louise Nevelson sculpture, and that’s pretty attractive. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable is also one of the most attractive things you can do.
10.
It’s funny—whenever someone talks about rules, I just want to break them. I recoil from the whole idea of rules.

practical

i'm working on my fall/winter wish list.  it's going to focus on a few practical and casual pieces like the margiela shoes above.  i also need to find some kick ass leather pants or leggings which was a major fail last fall...

swooning

a follow up to my post on the art in the streets show (which just closed) at moca.  here are a few shots that i took of swoon at work preparing for a solo show in la a few years ago (this is just one of the rooms, there was much more!).  she was working day and night to be ready for her opening... her level of detail is incredible.

style advice

"Only buy what you absolutely love. And develop a closet of those really special styles. It doesn’t mean they have to be expensive, just that you love them. Then start to mix them up in as many looks as possible. Photograph them so you can see what you like best. The more time that goes by, the more editing you can do until you have a refined selection, and, every day you could literally wear a different outfit that is an expression of your personal style."
